Multi-discipline Projects
In its 2008 edition, the Creation Programme has provided a total of 90.000 euros to be shared between two categories: KREA Projects and Young KREA. This is in order to promote research, the development of original, new projects related to contemporary art, musical composition, choreographic creation, theatrical creation... The second category refers to young creators who are interested in developing a creative project or in broadening their studies in relation to their creative speciality.
Juan Corres will finish his studies at D.A.N.C.E. (Dance Apprenticeship Network aCross Europe) in Dresden, a European vocational-integration programme, whose artistic directors are Frédéric Flamand (Ballet of Marseille), William Forsythe (Forsythe Company), Wayne McGregor (Random Dance) and Angelin Preljocaj (The Preljocaj Ballet).
Another training scholar is Maddi Arana, who after obtaining brilliant results in her studies at the Jesús Guridi Conservatory and at Musikene, will be able to broaden her education as a violinist at the Hochschule für Musik of Freiburg under the tuition of Latica Honda-Rosenberg.
María Serna has studied dance and theatre with Ion Beitia, Camilla C. Hanson, Ángela Rodríguez and Mónica Valenciano, among others, and her scholarship will allow her to join the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers, to perfect and continue her professional career.
Carla Fernández will be trained both artistically and technically in contemporary audiovisual production using state-of-the-art methods and equipment, as she will study for her Masters in Cinematographic Montage at the Escuela Superior de Cine y Audiovisuales of Catalonia.
In the Research section, the Committee has chosen three projects.
In his research, Rubén Díaz de Corcuera, proposes that "Extreme signs in contemporary art: super-icons, ultra-signs, the abstract and everything" such as the tendency for contemporary art to ascribe the signs it uses to extremes (super-iconic and super-indicators) which can lead to the enduring suspicion that the world is unreal and considering everything to be an aesthetic performance.
María Andueza can develop her research on “Site-specific sound installations in public spaces", through which she studies in depth the artistic, social and planning history of site-specific sound installations and establishes, from the standpoint of contemporary plastic creativity, a line of thought within the world of sonorous art.
Lastly, with ‘Hábitat’, Amaia Navascués proposes an investigation of our surroundings, based on the use of symbolic references in our culture with the purpose of providing a new, contemporary focus.
In Young Production, Leire Bolumburu will produce ‘Levántate y baila’ (Get up and Dance), where a group of dancers explore and describe their own experiences. It is the story of a process, of a search arising from the need to understand the world around and our place within it.
With her stage production ‘In.solita’, Blanca Ortiga wishes to combine new theatrical and visual languages using the idea of "empty space", where the emphasis is on expression through different dramatic styles with the use of metaphoric and symbolic lighting design.
In the production ‘Kromlech-Oteiza’, Aurelio Edler wishes to conceptually recreate a sonorous cromlech in terms of space and time. The starting point for this work is comprised of video fragments of Oteiza where the sculptor's voice will be digitally manipulated and then analysed to generate a sonorous material, which will be transferred to a string quartet and a baritone saxophone, giving a definitive form to the whole work.
Yolanda de los Bueis, who lives in London but is from Bilbao, produces “Video-Escondite”, using intrusion and intervention in public places, which proposes the creation of a type of interactive performance and art that mixes audiences using the internet, live performances and digital transmission. The aim is to explore interactivity and the political and social aspects of technology. In addition, she also aims to contribute to the debate on the development of games as an art form and on how games can be conceptually, intellectually and emotionally challenging while at the same time attracting a wide audience.
In the audiovisual area, Patricia Cangas will produce a short animated 3D film set in the 1970s, in an alternative reality, which analyses human evolution with an optimistic message for those of us who are unable to dream because our leaden feet keep us firmly on the ground.
Lastly, it should be noted that in December, a report will be presented on the 07 competition scholarship projects, which are currently coming to a close.
