Comics and poetry are once again in the spotlight of KREA’s programme

1 December 2008

KREA Expresión Contemporánea, the cultural project backed by the Social Commitment Division of Caja Vital Kutxa, promotes contemporary creation from a multidisciplinary perspective. Dance, theatre, music, contemporary art… these are a few of the disciplines supported by KREA, in addition to comics and poetry.

For the second year in a row KREA is organising its annual comic and poetry competitions with a view to stimulating creativity and imagination. Monday December 15th is the deadline to submit entries to both contests.

In order to create different levels of participation for these programmes, KREA has organised activities aimed at anyone wishing to discover the world of comics and poetry for the first time, as well as youngsters looking to hone their skills in these two artistic disciplines.

In addition to comic and poetry workshops, comic illustrators will be creating a mural at KREA’s head office. Furthermore, KREA will also open a window on its website www.kreared.com which will show comic strips submitted to the competition along with creations provided by professional comic illustrators.

There will also be an exhibition of all the work submitted to the comic competition at the Sala Araba from January 28th to February 18th, and a recital featuring participants in the poetry contest.

There has been an outstanding level of interest in these activities as demonstrated by the number of entries submitted by individual youngsters and schools interested in the project.

The competitions are aimed at school pupils aged between 9 and 17, who live in Álava or any the operational areas of Caja Vital Kutxa (Burgos, León, Logroño, Madrid, Salamanca, Santander, Valladolid and Zaragoza). Participants are divided into different categories according to their age: the children’s category is for ages 9-13, and the youth category for ages 14-17.
In the comic competition, groups of students from the same school or class can also present work collectively.

The aim of these programmes is to spark interest in creativity and to foster creativity among children and teenagers – rewarding artistic quality and innovation – and also to promote spaces for artistic participation and diffusion.

For both competitions, the winning entries will be included in anthologies that will be distributed among the participants and will also be available at the offices of KREA Expresión Contemporánea.

The competition terms and conditions as well as the registration form are available on the website, from the provisional head office of KREA at Postas 17, or by calling 945 150 147.
