KREA Expresión Contemporánea is an initiative backed by Caja Vital Kutxa to demonstrate its commitment to creation and contemporary culture, aimed mainly at the younger sector of the population.
It is an ideas laboratory, a resource centre and a meeting place, which promotes the development of in-house projects and fosters multi and transdisciplinary creation from the perspective of participation and networking. The main goal of KREA is to become a point of reference for creation, experimentation and thought in art and contemporary culture.
KREA develops research, training, production, exhibition and leisure programmes, and offers the resources required to learn, experience and enjoy the most contemporary forms of artistic and cultural creation.
The visual arts, cinema and video, music, literary arts, dance and theatre are KREA’s fields of creation, reflecting in their content the main questions raised by the social transformations of recent years.
KREA supports an open-ended concept of culture, coherent with a model of society in constant flux, which aims to interpret culture in its social context and shore up traditional artistic disciplines with other areas of interest such as science, sustainability and solidarity.
The former Convent of the Discalced Carmelites in Betoño (Vitoria-Gasteiz) is being remodelled as the brand new headquarters of KREA. The architectural project involves renovating and extending the former convent to adapt to the new uses, covering a total surface area of close to 8,000 square metres.
Until its new headquarters in Betoño are ready, KREA Expresión Contemporánea works out of it provisional offices and its virtual headquarters in www.kreared.com. This website provides information about the development of the project, the preliminary programme of activities, and offers the “KREA Community” a meeting place. With a contemporary, dynamic and attractive design, the website places particular emphasis on concepts such as usability, accessibility and participation through web 2.0 tools.
