KREA invites young people to be creative by taking part in ‘KREA Moon’

1 September 2008

As creators take over the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz on the night of the 12th September, young people in the audiences will be looking for an original way of reflecting and conveying these creations. Because ‘KREA Moon’, as well as offering over 30 cultural proposals in one evening throughout the city, will also be encouraging members of the public to play a creative part in the event.

Participants in the event can record videos, take photos or write micro-reports of ‘KREA Moon’, a platform launched to promote the work of young creators and organised by KREA Contemporary Expression, a project backed by the Social Commitment Division of Caja Vital Kutxa,

Anyone interested in taking part in the event must first register at KREA’s headquarters or on line at www.kreared.com, after which they will be sent a welcome kit. Then, after enjoying the evening of the 12th September, they will have until the 20th of the month to organise their work. A few days later, the judges will choose the most creative piece submitted and the author will win two tickets to the international festival of their choosing.

New signings

Avant-garde café theatre will be present on this evening of non-stop cultural activity thanks to productions such as ‘Sardana acuática’ by La Quadra Mágica and ‘Ha Sint’ Ö. Gran espectáculo mundial del fakir’ by Teatro en Huída. La Quadra Mágica Theatre Company is travelling all the way from Barcelona to present a humorous review of Basque traditions. According to the authors of the project, “given the scarcity of water in Catalonia and the imminent climate change, a group of aquatic sardanistas [traditional dance group from Catalonia] emigrates to the Basque provinces in search of rain… and anything else they can lay their hands on”. The performance will start at 8:00 p.m. in Bar 97.

At the same time in the Man in the Moon pub, ‘Ha Sint’ Ö. Gran espectáculo mundial del fakir’ will be performed by the Basque theatre company Teatro en Huída, a production created for the Bilbao Antzerki Dantza (BAD) theatre festival. In this acerbic show, Lady Nicotina (Mirian K. Martxante) and Lady Shadow (Leire Ucha) accompany the grand fakir of the 21st Century, knife thrower, magician and fire-eater.

An hour later, El Parral bar will be moving to the catchy music of ‘Mamba Beat’, with its fusion of electro, house, funk, acid jazz, Afrocuban-beat and Latino rhythms. The members of the band have played with groups such as Doctor Deseo, Txuma Murugarren, Lovercraft, Garaje H, The Cherry Boppers and SKA-P. The aim: “for people to dance nonstop from start to finish at the concert”.

Basically rock, with elements of country and blues. This will be on the menu served up by local band ‘Feel Fargo’ at midnight in the Molly Malone Irish Tavern. The musicians come from various projects, such as La Milla 13, Vagón de Cola, Union Rail and Baby Soul. At their concerts, which are always peppered with surprises, they mix their own tracks with versions of songs by Neil Young, JJ Cale, John Fogerty, the Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Highseed Dixie and even Bob Marley.

As well as the performing arts, other disciplines such as comic strips will be present at ‘KREA Moon’. The young illustrators María Jesús Hernández (Chusa) and Gonzalo San Martín (Gon) will be decorating two venues in the city with their artistic illustrations created on the evening. Chusa will be at the bar Un toque de laurel from 7:00 p.m. onwards, and Gon at Café Dublín an hour later. The styles of these two creators have been enriched by influences ranging from graphic design, manga and anima, and even videogames and role play.
