The total amount invested in the creation programme has increased from €72,000 to €90,000
KREA Expresión contemporánea, the cultural project backed by the Social Responsibility Division of Caja Vital Kutxa, has launched its Grants Programme 2008. In the first edition of this programme, held last year, these grants funded 14 artistic projects and promoted contemporary creation by contributing to training, research, development and the dissemination of projects. This year, the total amount allocated to this programme stands at €90,000, 25% more than the previous edition.
For the second year in a row, the grants programme is divided into two categories: ‘KREA PROJECTS’ and ‘YOUNG KREA’. The first category, aimed at creators from the Basque Country and Caja Vital Kutxa’s other operational areas (Burgos, León, La Rioja, Madrid, Navarra, Salamanca, Cantabria, Toledo, Valladolid, Guadalajara and Zaragoza), helps to fund the production of original artistic and research projects relating to contemporary culture.
‘YOUNG KREA', on the other hand, is aimed at creators under the age of 30 who wish to produce artistic projects or expand their training in a specific creative field. Through this section, KREA supports younger artists and has increased the funding available to them by 300%.
Applications for these grants must include a detailed project statement/description, the estimated grant amount requested, and a detailed CV of the creator. Applications may be submitted from the 15th May 2008 to the 30th June 2008. The Selection Committee will value the quality, viability and suitability of the projects, as well as the past achievements of the artists, and will announce its decisions towards the end of the year.
150 project applications were submitted to last year’s programme. KREA channelled €72,000 into supporting and funding 14 of these projects, which are currently being developed. The projects chosen were extremely diverse, from a multidisciplinary musical composition, to street theatre that promotes recycling, a research project into experimental theatre and a project about feminine figures in Greek and Roman myth and their persistent archetypes.
