‘The Bongolian’, psychedelic fund from London
Nasser Bouzida is the multi-instrumentalist behind ‘The Bongolian’, an alter ego created in 2001, although he still records and performs with Big Boss Man. The new musical project produces psychedelic sounds by blending retro elements of funk, soul, latin and jazz with strong percussion and frenetic bongo rhythms. His self-titled LP ‘The Bongolian’ was released at the start of 2003 and met with great critical acclaim, followed by ‘Blueprint’ in 2006 and ‘A psychedelic trip to outer Bongolia’ in 2007.
Although he played all the instruments for the studio recordings, ‘The Bongolian’ has had to bring in various musicians so that the group could perform live. The current group is made up of Trevor Harding (bass), Bradley Burgess (guitar) and Reinis Axellson (percussion).
Their first performance was headlining the prestigious Jazz Festival in Rennes, France, followed by more concerts in Europe and a series of tours around the UK and Spain, including a gig at London’s Metro Club in 2005 which sold out. The band also toured with Holly Golightly in Great Britain, US and Germany.
